Oct. 27, Mrs. Jessica Patrick’s Intro to Business and Marketing classes traveled to Kingsport, Tennessee to attend CareerQuestTN. The First Tennessee Development District stated, “CareerQuestTN is a program of the First Tennessee Development District representing career exploration for students throughout the region.” The program consisted of numerous hands-on activities, including petting snakes, making balsamic vinaigrette, and an interview workshop, administered by former tourism commissioner, Kevin Triplett. The conference had a unique focus on hospitality and tourism, generally educating students about their career possibilities in East Tennessee. Student Caitlyn Jones remarked, “My favorite part was the recreation and activities room. They had lots of hands-on activities, and I even got to pet a snake.”
Student Kayla Apimwar was especially impressed with the technical aspect of the conference, stating, “The technical part of the field trip gave us information about how they set up things for the convention like the screens, speakers, and lights. They also travel to different places to set up conventions, and it was just really interesting to me.” This experience provided students with a unique insight into the technical aspects of events that they would normally spectate.
