I, Stacy Hernandez, highly encourage students to go to college preview days for any college they have in mind, especially seniors. It’ll really open your mind up on how you’ll spend your college years and help you decide whether you truly want to go there or not. I attended college preview day at Carson Newman University, and it truly felt like home after experiencing being a college student there for a day. First we were greeted with so much good energy by staff and students and then a golf cart picked us up to go check in. As we checked in, we were greeted by more students, and they had a whole table set up with dunkin donuts and coffee for us. We went to a room where we did chapel, the university's worship team came in and led in worship, a youth pastor gave us a mini lecture, and then we spoke about what Carson Newman has to offer. They offer so many things such as mission trips, serve day which is where students gather up and help those in need in different areas, prison ministry where staff and students go to a correctional facility and say testimonies and lectures, and so much more!
After that, we all got split up and taken to the classes we were interested in. Some were taken into nursing classes, psychology classes, business classes, and more. In my case, I chose sports marketing and I was taken to that class along with my friend and this other guy who traveled from Iowa to Tennessee for this day. The professor and students were very welcoming and funny.
After class was done, we were taken to the cafeteria where they had a variety of options of foods. This was one thing that highlighted my day. The food was amazing!
After Lunch, we were all split into groups with current students for a campus tour. At first, I got lost but then I got the hang of it. We got to see the dorms and what they were like. They are currently building a new dorm building for incoming freshmen. We got to see where all the classes were located, sports facilities, and all the hangout spots where students go to study or just hang out. We were given information about how you can engage with other students like clubs, events, and if we had any questions then we got them answered. One thing that caught my attention was that they have their own Chick-fil-A on campus. I think that’s awesome.
