Consider Trying Out Computer Science Courses

Morristown Hamblen West High School has a wide range of fun classes to teach students certain skills and prepare them for their future careers after high school and benefit them later in college. AP Computer Science Principles is one of the classes.

This class is taught by Richard Hawkins and he has shared lots of important information about it so students can know if they qualify or would be interested in taking the course.

AP Computer Science Principles:

AP Computer Science Principles is open to students in 10th grade and above who have completed Algebra 1. It is an excellent course for any student interested in Coding, Information Technology, Video Game Programming, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or any other technical field.

This course uses the MIT App Inventor Program instead of a dedicated programming language.

Richard Hawkins states “This class is great fun as compared to some other classes.”

An alternate name for this class would be "The APP Building Class". Students will learn to design and evaluate solutions and apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. They will incorporate abstraction into programs and use data to discover new knowledge. Students will also explain how computing innovations and computing systems, including the Internet, work, explore their potential impacts, and contribute to a computing culture that is collaborative and ethical.

Hawkins remarked, “Our AP Computer Science courses teach logical thinking, application of algorithms as well as how to design, write, evaluate and test computer programs.”

He also added, “I would like to emphasize that our AP Computer Science Principles class, although it moves quickly, is a lot of fun and students can export their apps to cell phones and tablets. Any student who is interested in technology of any type can benefit from our AP Computer Science class.”
