At the start of this year, new teacher Mr. Davin Hatfield began teaching Principles of Manufacturing.
Hatfield is from Morristown, TN where he ran cross country for West and later graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Hatfield is married to a Union Heights teacher, Casey, and together they have a two year old son, named Josiah. Many of the subjects taught in West do not require many certifications, However, Hatfield sports many certifications, stating, “I am certified as an Internal Auditor for ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and the FDA’s 21 CFR Part 210 and 211. I am certified as an Advanced Programmer and Trainer for Zeiss Coordinate Measuring Machine. I am certified in hardness testing on Diamet Software. I am certified in Effective and Compliant Technical Writing through The Center of Professional Advancement. I am OSHA 10 Certified. I have my certification in FIRST AID, CPR, and AED. I am certified in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.”
Every teacher has had something or someone that inspired them to teach, and Hatfield is no different, stating, “I love teaching students the path to successfully achieving their goals. I worked in manufacturing for almost thirteen years before becoming a teacher. I love seeing people learn to perform tasks that at one point they didn’t think they would be able to complete.”
Hatfield is overall just a great teacher and great person, but he strives to be a better person each and every day. Hatfield declared, “ I love to help people. Servant leadership is something I strive to follow and teach. We should all be willing to help others become the best versions of themselves.” Even though Mr. Hatfield is new to West, he already feels like a part of the Trojan family.
