Morristown Speech, Debate Team Makes Winning Moves at Munster Novice Tournament

The Morristown West High School Speech and Debate Team competed in the Munster Novice Speech Tournament in Munster, Indiana. This competition was held completely asynchronously. The events offered at this competition were Declamation, Dramatic Performance (DI), Duo Interpretation, Extemp, OO/Info, Poetry Interpretation, Prepared Prompt Speaking (Impromptu), Prose Interpretation, and Radio Broadcasting. Competitors placed in eight events.

  • Freshman Kayla Skennion placed 1st in Extemp.

  • Aarya Patel placed 3rd in Prose Interpretation.

  • In Duo Interpretation, there was a three-way tie for 3rd place. Freshman Ruby Cunningham with her partner, Radiance Starr, placed 3rd. Freshman Ella Hardin with her partner, Abigail Snider also placed 3rd. Abigail Snider also placed 3rd in Poetry.

  • Senior Katie Simmons placed 4th in Extemp.

  • Senior Alexie Cowan placed 4th in Dramatic Performance and 4th in Radio Broadcasting.

  • In OO/Info, there was a three-way tie for 3rd place. Sophomore Aarya Patel placed 3rd.

  • In Prepared Prompt Speaking, there was a three-way tie for 4th place. Freshman Haydin Salter placed 4th, and freshmen Jocey Valdez placed 4th.

  • Freshman Maggie Purgason placed 5th in Radio Broadcasting.

Morristown West High School placed 2nd in Team Sweepstakes.

This competition was different from the other competitions the team has participated in this year. Competitors must have less than 100 points to be eligible to compete. Students that have over 100 points can judge rounds. Delaney Miksa, Cayden Keltgen, Emma Whittaker, Rylee Linkous, Kimber Strumski, Marlee Smerdel, Faith Hodge, Aaron Bass, and Sienna Hollis all judged rounds in this competition.
