Updated: 21 hours ago

Congratulations to West High FBLA officers Almabel Santiago Castillo and Maythe Fuentes for placing first in the East TN region for broadcast journalism. Nov. 13 the students traveled to Knoxville with other competitors to compete in person. These students worked together to perform a live newscast presenting news on how Hurricane Helen affected two Morristown education members.

Fuentes and Castillo presented as live news anchors showing footage of teacher Dr. Sabella Sauceman and Lincoln Elementary teacher and firefighter Hillary Morrison. Sauceman's interview talked about the "horrible affects of no water in Greene County for seven days." Sauceman had to report to work to take care of her students while her town and friends suffered a massive flood. Meanwhile, Morrison worked as a firefighter to evacuate Greene County residents before businesses and homes collapsed.

A special thank you goes out to Mr. Tim Landefeld, assistant principal, and Mrs. Jessica Patrick, FBLA advisor for coaching the students through the process. Santiago Castillo and Fuentes will advance to state competition in Chattanooga this coming spring.
