Cap Decorating Guidelines 2022

The following information is a list of guidelines to refer to when decorating the graduation cap. Decoration of the cap is not a requirement. Graduation caps will be reviewed and approved in advance of the decorating process and before the graduation ceremony. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the removal of the decoration and/or the opportunity to walk.

Expectations:

  • Designs must not be inappropriate or privilege will be taken away.

  • No objects such as signs, stuffed animals, bells, flowers, or any 3D object may rest on the cap.

  • ALL decorations MUST lay FLAT on the cap.

  • Nothing can lay perpendicular thus allowing us to see the decoration beyond eye level.

  • Nothing can hang from any side of the cap.

  • Your cap cannot make noise such as bells or horns.

Cap Designs May Include:

  • Recognize your post-secondary plans (college, trade school, military, work force)

  • Recognize your high school sports or fine arts

  • that refer to drugs or controlled substances, alcohol, or weapons or be of a sexual nature

  • Nicknames( unless approved)

  • Gang-related signs/slang

  • Boyfriend/Girlfriend names

  • Political affiliation

  • Alcohol, drugs, weapons, or be of sexual nature

  • Threaten the safety or welfare of any person

Instructions for Decorating:

To prevent damage to the cap, Student Council will be providing each senior with a pre-cut piece of white poster board to use. Seniors will receive the piece once the design is approved and returned. It is a seniors responsibility to decorate his or her poster board to match his or her design exactly. After one decorate, he or she can apply the piece by CAREFULLY fitting it snugly around the button on the cap and securing it with double-sided tape or velcro. Don't use glue! If the design needs to be removed at graduation, he or she should be able to do so and still get to walk with your blank cap. We will not provide the senior with a new cap should you damage it in the decorating process. Jostens may have some extras available (which may require a rental fee), but please do not count on that. You will NOT be permitted to walk without a cap. If one has any questions or need assistance, please contact Ms. Cobb.

Approval Process:

ALL senior students must submit a signed design form to their TNN teachers. Your TN teacher must approve your design by May 9th, 2022. Those approved designs will be passed on to Administration and the Student Council committee for final approval. No designs can be turned in for approval after May 9th, 2022, and designs that did not go through this process will not be permitted at graduation (regardless of meeting the expectations). The design form will be returned with either denial or approval by May 13th. If approved, one will also receive a piece of poster board, and you can begin decorating!

Administration reserves the right to disallow anything that has not followed these guidelines for the graduation ceremony.

Lilli Roberts shared, " Student council, wanted to show off the creativity, and basically not just students walking on stage were. We're people and we have a passion, a life, and we get to showcase that along with showcasing our academic accomplishments."

Dylan Nufrio stated, "We should be able to. We don't need to be anymore strict than we already are."

Hunter Delaney remarked, "Cool."
