The FAFSA deadline is March 1, 2022. High school seniors and their family all need to complete the free application for Federal Student Aid to be eligible for up to two years of tuition-free community or technical college with the Tennessee Promise. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission is working with Tennessee high schools and Tennessee Promise to support finishing the FAFSA and inform the students all about the financial aid opportunities offered. Last year, high school graduates all across Tennessee left approximately $48 million dollars in federal Pell Grant funding for college tuition and fees for not finishing FAFSA. Seniors that complete FAFSA are more likely to enroll in a higher education and gain a degree. Seniors must complete FAFSA to apply for most state and federal financial aid for college. The Tennessee Higher Education Commission and Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation has many resources for seniors and schools. Senior resources have step-by-step instructions. School resources contain guides to help high schools support their FAFSA completion numbers.
