Students Voted for Worst Case of Senioritis

Miracle Styles

It is a new semester and the seniors are coming down with something, Senioristis.   Senioritis is a decrease in grades, lack of completing assignments, and loss of interest in academic work. It is mostly a senior experience. It can cause stress or anxiety, especially in high achievers or if they have important College and Job applications pending. Senioritis usually starts in the second semester of senior year. After they complete most of their required courses and secure their plans, many students will tend to think that they are done with school which makes their attention span decline. It can affect grades, scholarships, and college admissions.

Leticia Gama Dos Santos was voted for ‘Worst Case of Senioritis’ and she commented that senioritis “is kind of a natural response to the pressure and anticipation of graduation.” It happens to most seniors when they get all the credits they need to graduate. Santos noted that she “understands why it happens, but I also think it’s important to keep pushing through, especially since how they finish senior year can impact their future” She explained that “making small, manageable goals and focusing on one assignment at a time”. Also, she implied “that having a solid routine or holding yourself accountable with a friend or teacher might also help you a lot.” Santos thinks that it only happens to seniors because they have already gone through the grind of their high school years and are looking ahead to the next chapter.” She stated that “Underclassmen are still trying to figure out their place, still have more challenging courses ahead, and might be motivated by their desire to “prove” themselves or prepare for the future”.

“Majority of the seniors have senioritis and it is pretty common. Few students keep pushing through because they have strong goals or just love what they are doing” Santos commented. From Santos to upcoming seniors she suggested that “ you stay focused and keep your eyes on what's important. Remember that the last semester can have just as big of an impact as the previous ones.” Santos expressed that staying engaged in extracurricular activities or hobbies to maintain a balance, and not be afraid to ask for help or find accountability partners to stay on track, and most importantly, remember that you're almost there.”
