Well rounded stars of West High: Senior superlative

Connor Kongchan

Students voted in the class of 2025 are Charles Dewald and Elaina Mitchell. Mitchell has been involved in a variety of clubs and activities, including: Student Council, Beta Club, French Club, Interact Club, and Young Life. Mitchell shared how community service has been a priority throughout her high school years and has served with organizations such as Food on Foot, Special Olympics, and Access-Life. She noted how she has also done a lot of service projects through Beta Club, Student Council, and Youth Leadership, and has participated in mission trips with her church.

Mitchell believes her selection as Best All-Around was because “I always strive to be a kind, supportive, and positive influence on those around me. I have also been actively involved in a variety of extracurriculars including volleyball, academics, social activities, and church.” However, outside of school Mitchell works at Morristown Landing and attends Arrowhead Church.

Mitchell plans to attend a four-year university, where she hopes to pursue a degree in communications. Mitchell believes Dewald was truly deserving of the superlative, and can think of many other amazing candidates in our senior class that would have made good choices.

Dewald, is active in Beta Club, Interact Club, and Math Club. Dewald has contributed 40 hours of community service. He noted how he believes that he was picked due to “God’s love has shown through me through the working of his Holy Spirit.” Dewald also commented on how he believes that “My boy Gavin Mitchell should have won.”

In his free time, Dewald is involved with his youth group at Arrowhead church and young life. He plays baseball and golf for West. He also likes to disc golf and go on hikes. Dewald explained how he is “Pretty undecided” he is considering playing baseball for Yale if he is accepted. He is also, considering attending seminary and working as a Youth Pastor.
