The Hall of Fame ceremony was held on Oct. 4, 2024. It was held to celebrate the accomplishments of Monica Clayton Fawknotson, Brian Marcum, and Matt Spencer. The Master of Ceremonies, Thomas R. ‘Skip’ Frierson, II explained that The Trojan Army is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to:
-Promote school spirit, loyalty and fellowship among alumni, students, faculty and staff of Morristown-Hamblen High School West
-Make possible cutting-edge and innovative programs for all students
-Help with funding of scholarships for students
-Establish a Hall of Fame dedicated to promoting the heritage of excellence at Morristown-Hamblen High School West
-Provide a source of historical information about Morristown-Hamblen High School West.
Monica Clayton Fawknotson
Her many achievements include:
-Serving in the administration of former Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell
-Serving as a speaker/presenter/panelist for The Convention, Sports & Entertainment Facilities Conferences, the NCAA/Black Women in Sports Foundation Roundtable, and the University of Tennessee’s Partners in Sports Management Conference.
-Being a member of the Nashville Sports Council’s Board of Directors and a former Chair of Nashville’s Women in Sports Committee.
-Many other positions of power over the course of her career.
Brian Marcum
Marcum’s Mark:
-Served in the United States Marine Corps right out of High School
- Was stationed in Twenty-Nine Palms, California.
-Left the Military to return to Morristown
-Taught at Meadowview Middle School for nine years
-Coached Football, Track, and wrestling while at Meadowview
-Moved educating jobs to West in 2016
-Volunteered to film all football games starting in 2008 (before he even worked here)
-After his passing, a scholarship was started in his name to assist a student wishing to pursue an education degree
-Was very passionate about his family, students, and job
Matt Spencer
His accomplishments include:
-Playing varsity basketball for three years, earning
all-conference and all-tournament recognition; however, his baseball successes earned him his highest honors.
-Being a four-year starter for Morristown West Trojan Baseball, where he was named all-state three times and earned All-American honors as a senior in 2004. He played in the nationally televised All-American game, and the Boston Red Sox drafted Matt shortly after.
-Accepting a baseball scholarship from the University of North Carolina, where he played from 2005 to 2006. He played a
prominent role in the 2006 College World Series
title games.
-Becoming the National Hitter of the Week three times and appearing in the College World Series for a second time with Arizona State University.
-Spending seven years in professional baseball, playing for the Phillies, Athletics, and Cubs.
-Reaching AAA level with the Chicago Cubs in 2012.
-Completing his undergraduate degree, and serving as an
assistant coach for the Tar Heels.
