Today, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day across the country. Veterans Day is a very special and important day to many people whose lives are affected by the armed services. Many students who attend West High have loved ones who have served, or are currently serving in the armed forces. West High School honored this day, these students, and their families in many ways this morning.
Three videos were shared with every TNN class at West High School. The first video was of a West High Sophomore, Annabeth Workman, who gave a speech explaining the importance of Veterans day and how it is important to her. Workman is the daughter, granddaughter, and niece of United States Veterans. She exclaimed that “because of this, Veterans day is extremely important to me.” She proceeds to further the notion of importance by stating, “Veterans day is a time to pay our respects and gratitude to those who have served our nation and those who are currently serving in the military.” She talks about many other things including how JROTC has become a great source of young men and women who are currently in a branch of the armed forces.
The next two videos were of the West High marching band and the West High advanced Choir performing patriotic songs to honor the Veterans. The band performed “This is My Country” which they will also be performing at the Veterans Day parade in Morristown. The choir performed “The National Anthem.”
With that, the Veterans Day program concluded. West High salutes the ones who fought, and are still fighting for this nation. Happy Veterans Day!
