West High Students Shine at DECA Conference

West High’s Distributive Education Clubs of America club, or DECA, has recently participated in a State Conference. The conference took place between Feb. 26 - Feb. 28. The conference took place in Chattanooga TN. The students who participated were, Zachary Henry who placed fifth in Automotive services, Gavin Mitchell who placed second in Principles of Business Management and Administration, Harsh Patel who placed second in Retail Merchandising, Marvin Velasquez who placed fifth in Principles of Finance, and Jesica Esteban who placed fourth in Principles of marketing. Eli Shoun mentioned that “some fellow DECA students rented bikes and rode around Chattanooga.”

Jacqueline Cutshaw, who is the advisor of DECA explains, “DECA, Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a global organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in the areas of marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.” Cutshaw also noted, “Through competitive events and real-world business scenarios, DECA helps students develop critical skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership.”
