An asset to the Trojan Nation comes in Josefa Silva Silva, West High’s newest ELL Teacher.
She was a product of Hamblen County Schools. She graduated from West High in 2017, and although she was in ELL when she was at John Hay Elementary School , she never thought that she would return as a teacher. She went to Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. She double majored in English and History and double minored in Economics and Creative Writing. Her background in English and creative writing led her to teaching ELL students.
One of her favorite things about being back at West High School is seeing some of her own teachers. Her teachers were always inspiring when she was a student here, and is extremely grateful to be surrounded by supportive colleagues. She is very excited to finish my first year of teaching, but she is also excited about experiencing everything in between.
One of her favorite quotes to share with students is “Still, there are times I am bewildered by each mile I have traveled, each meal I have eaten, each person I have known, each room in which I have slept. As ordinary as it all appears, there are times when it is beyond my imagination.” by Jhumpa Lahiri. For her, this quote hints a lot on her personal experiences. She grew up in Mexico and as a kid a life in the US was literally beyond her imagination. It is still beyond her imagination to be teaching here at the very school she graduated from, meeting her students, and connecting with the people she gets to work with.
