The inclusiveness and numerous amounts of clubs and activities available to all students at Morristown West High are something the school takes great pride in. One of these clubs, which had its first meeting of the school year on August 26th, was established in the year 1969 and has gone through many changes to be what it is today. This organization is the Future Business Leaders of America club, better known as FBLA.
The first meeting of the school year included an organized agenda, a sign-in sheet, introduction of sponsors and officers, testimonies of veteran FBLA members, and an introduction of the FBLA board. One of FBLA’s club sponsors, Amy Whaley, even ordered pizza for the members who attended the first meeting! FBLA’s president, Dawson Wood, gave insight on his previous year participating in the organization, discussing the conferences the group attended together. Every club member is required to attend one conference in Knoxville, Tennessee at the end of January. The regional conference is to take place during the school day, but all students are excused and there will be no documented absences. The next conference FBLA will be taking is scheduled for March of 2020 to the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The trip is optional, but all past attendees praise the trip for what a wonderful time they had participating. The group will also be going on a trip in October to the Corn Maze purely for the sake of fellowship!
Club sponsor Kimberly Cook stresses to new and old members of the club that it is not too late to invite friends to future meetings. The club dues are $20 for each member, the price including state membership and a t-shirt. FBLA is anticipating a fantastic year!
