West High’s thirteenth Blood Drive battle against East High took place on Aug. 20. It was a friendly competition between the two schools to help the local hospitals and community. Medic was set up in the auditorium and outside for community members that chose to donate.
Students who wished to donate had to follow some requirements. Students who were 16 and 17-years old had to have signed consent, weigh at least 120 pounds and show their ID. Students that were 18 years or older had to weigh at least 110 pounds and show their ID.
After blood was collected, it was delivered to a Medic facility in Knoxville. The medic collects the blood and gives it to patients at local hospitals. The winner last year was West High. Unfortunately, East donated a couple more pints than West this year. However, all who donated are winners for saving lives.
