The West High Trojans started off the season with a big win Friday, Aug. 20, during the 50th annual Citizen Tribune Kickoff Classic.
The first half may have started out rough with East taking the lead, and West being behind 3-13 by the end of the second quarter, West wasn’t finished and came back strong in the second half and won 31-20! “I am very proud of the team and how well they did! I’m also very glad the student body came out and supported the team. Overall, it was a great win for the school,” said Coach Alvin Sanders.
Many are hopeful this means good luck for the team, though throughout the game, Covid-19 was often brought up as a concern among fans in the stands and what it might mean for the rest of the season. Many are hopeful that the season will continue on strong.
During halftime, the Morristown-Hamblen High School West marching band presented “Los Cuervos.” The band is now directed by Mr. Jared Box, who took now retired teacher Mr. Thomas’ position. Different competitions were also held during halftime presented by different sponsors including the Citizen Tribune, Morristown Performance Tire Center, and more.
All together, the game was a great win for West and the entire Trojan Nation! Remember that the latest sports schedules can always be found in each Sunday’s Trojan Talk found in the Citizen Tribune and on MHHSW.HCBOE.NET.
